Considered by Swimming World magazine the best open water competition in the world, the King and Queen of the Sea event is attended by more than 12 thousand athletes in 4 different sports disciplines: open water swimming, beach running, beach biathlon and stand up paddle.
Throughout the year the event has 3 amateur events and 1 professional event (Elite Challenge), which is broadcast live by Esporte Espetacular with the attendance of the best open water swimmers of the world.
In 2014, all King and Queen of the Sea events reached a record attendance. There was a 40% increase in attendance compared to the 2013 edition of the event. The event had athletes from 23 Brazilian states.
The King and Queen of the Sea is now part of the World Open Water Swimming Series (WOWSS), a series of the 13 best open water competitions in the world. The King and Queen of the Sea is the only one held in South America.
In 2015, the event also joined the Global Swim Series, a global association that promotes safe, fun and competitive open water swimming events for athletes from different levels and nationalities.
