The greatest beach sports festival in the world!
The Rei e Rainha do Mar is not just a sporting event: it is a celebration of outdoor sports.
During its 15 years of existence, there were over 300 starts, which included sea swimming, sand races, trail running, beach biathlon, kids, stand up paddle and Hawaiian canoeing competitions.
The Kings of the Sea
The song “Do Leme ao Pontal”, by Tim Maia, is where it all began. After watching the band Vitória Régia on TV, an Olympic swimmer decided to cover the distance.
When he emerged from the sea, he got an ovation from people at the beach, who chanted “King of the Sea, King of the Sea”. It was then that the idea of promoting a competition in open waters arose, thus bringing the main athletes in this modality to Rio de Janeiro.
The festival has since then included female athletes and has received great Olympic participants, such as Ana Marcela Cunha, Poliana Okimoto, Ferry Weertman, Chad Ho, Ousama Mellouli, Esmee Vermeulen, Yasunari Hirai, Kari-Anne Payne, Rhachele Bruni and Allan do Carmo, and thousands of amateur athletes passionate about outdoor sports.

Only for women
Due to the increased female participation in the festival, we created the Queen of the Sea festival in 2022, the biggest 100% female open waters competition in the continent.
Queen of the Sea is composed of three amateur competitions and a big Elite Tournament with professional athletes, broadcast by Globo.

The concept is an invitation to try the experience of outdoor sports at the Rei e Rainha do Mar arena, in a unique atmosphere rich in colors, energy and interaction.

Rei e Rainha do Mar believes in sports as a way to promote social-environmental changes.
During its 15 years of existence, we have contributed to and implemented several ESG initiatives, all of them committed to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) proposed by the UN.
PWD Athletes
Besides a 50% discount in the registration fee, athletes can count upon a staff which takes care of several tasks, from receiving the kit to leaving the arena. Over 1,600 PwD athletes have already competed in the festival.

Supported Projects
Sports are also about inclusion. We offer free registrations for non-profitable sports projects in every event. Besides that, 10% of the total amount raised through registration fees are applied in several social actions throughout the year.

Formula Collection
At Kit Pickup, we promote our traditional Solidarity Exchange in support of the Pro Criança Cardíaca NGO (Pro Cardiac Children). Participants donate cans of formula and receive caps or t-shirts from previous events. We have already raised over 48 thousand cans of formula for this project, whose goal is to assist cardiac children and adolescents from families in need.
