The King and Queen of the Sea (Rei e Rainha do Mar) return to Leblon Beach after eight years. The location will host a new event, the Super Challenge 10km, which now becomes the longest distance. The event will take place on September 28, and it is expected to have 3,500 participants. Registrations for the sea swimming, beach running, beach biathlon, and kids' events are already open. The Super Challenge will start at Praia Vermelha, in Urca, and will pass through almost all the oceanic beaches along the South Zone until it reaches Posto 12, in Leblon.
"Returning to Leblon was an old desire of ours because this is a very symbolic beach for Cariocas. We are very happy to not only return but to return bringing something new: a unique route starting from Urca to the end of Leblon. Imagine swimming in the sea across various beaches?! It’s the dream of any swimmer, and here in Rio, we have a good stretch of beach and infrastructure for that," comments Pedro Rego Monteiro, CEO of the agency Effect Sport, which organizes the King and Queen of the Sea.
The King and Queen of the Sea has events designed for the whole family, including children from 3 years old. The distances start at 200m and go up to 10km in swimming, and range from 300m to 2km in running. People with disabilities are entitled to a 50% discount on registrations and assistance during the events. This need must be communicated at the time of kit pickup.
Check the event calendar. The kits will be available on the 26th and 27th of September at a location to be defined. More information on the website reierainhadomar.com.br. The prices range from R$ 109 (Open 500M, for people with disabilities) to R$ 380 (Super Challenge 10K).
