The Elite Challenge features the best professional athletes of the sport and had its first edition in 2009 inspired by the repercussion of the Leme ao Pontal event in which Luis Lima swam in open water the 35km that separates Leme Beach to Pontal Beach. Once the challenge was complete, the athlete received the King of the Sea trident.
In all Elite Challenges, the event features the best national and international open water swimming athletes of the World. The competition, with its exclusive format, had in 2014 its 6th edition which was considered by Swimming World magazine one of the best open water competitions in the World.
The Elite Challenge is part of Rede Globo’s annual summer schedule and is broadcast live by Esporte Espetacular.
